Yes, sorry to say. I grew up near some of the first, and last, Tower stores, like the famous one at Columbus & Bay in San Francisco. It was closing out the last time I went by there, about a month ago.
Not much vinyl left. Even the CDs are going the way of the dinosaurs. Fitting, considering what they're made of, but still sad.
If you're in the SF Bay Area and you want some of that Tower Records experience, try Amoeba on Telegraph in Berkeley. It's the closest I've found. Noisier, but gritty, energetic and genuine.
