Why is it that the Japanese have more respect for their royal family than the british. Even the youth of Japan who aren't into royalty still acknowledge their royal family and have respect for them. This is a totally different story in the UK where many people say awful stuff about the royal family and many are against the royal family. Why is this? Is it because of prince charles remarrying? or do people feel the royal family was against diana? and why are the Japanese so interested in their royal family?

The British monarch has never been regarded as a god, like the Japanese Emperor formerly was. The Japanese are brought up with good manners, it is a very polite society.
Unfortunately, manners don't seem to be taught in Britain any more.

To add to what the other posters have said, the English have lampooned the British royal family for a very long time--at least as long as the reign of James I, beginning in 1603. Indeed, during the reign of James I's son, Charles I, Parliament beheaded the King, and for a decade England was a republic--albeit one ruled by a dictator called the Lord Protector. Perhaps it was easier for the English to criticize the Stuarts and, in turn, the Hanovers because the English people viewed them as "foreigners". The Stuarts were Scots, and the Hanovers, German. The Scots, for that matter, have always felt free to criticize their reigning monarch, or as Robert Burns would say, "a man's a man for all that."
The Japanese monarchy, on the other hand, has been kept cloistered in its palace and has not really had that much power since the eleventh century. From 1192 to 1867, the shoguns actually ruled Japan, although the Emperor was a symbol of national unity.

Many Japanese people believe or used to believe the Japanese Imperial Family was descended from The Japanese Sun Goddess. I'm not sure but I think Emperor Hirihito had to dispell that myth according to the surrender of Japan to America at the end of World War II. Not to mention the British Royal family has had a ton of scandals and controversies...

The Japanese media show more respect to the Imperial family than the British to the Windsor Dynasty. Mud-racking is very common in the UK and the Murdoch media are trying to discredit any member of the Royal Family - not only in Britain, but in Australia and anywhere else as well.

I really agree with Melroyalist on this - Murdock seems to have a thing against the royal family and thus has set his media empire on making them look bad.
In Japan, the media would never dream of covering the Imperial Family the way Murdock's lot does. Plus the Imperial Family are almost prisoners in the Palace. They don't go out among the people the way the Queen does and the Queen Mother did.
