The angle your boss will come from will be that you must have had some idea that the sum total for the goods was incorrect??? If you truly had no inkling of what was going on then you have a good case for tribunal if you are offered "departure docs" - call a "no win no fees" lawyer and put forward your case if they think you have a chance of winning they'll definitely take it on. Good Luck

Employee theft is a rampant problem for virtually any retailer. As an employee, you are supposed to be aware of potential theft of any kind, including your own, however inadvertent it may have been.

Regardless, I find it hard to believe that your boss wouldn't have asked for an explanation and compensation for the erroneously discounted amount.

You also didn't mention what happened to the cashier who caused the problem.

So, either you didn't tell us the whole story, or you gave your manager an inane and/or inadequate explanation, or you did something prior to this event that warranted this harsher, and probably deserved, punishment.

If I were you, I would approach the manager, apologize profusely, but earnestly, then immediately pay the difference between the discounted and actual amounts (are you entitled to an employee discount at all? if so, then that should be factored in). Don't wait for the manager to ask for the contentious amount.

P.S. You should be more concerned about your spelling mistakes, love! ;)

wink wink nod nod.

You don't UNKNOWINGLY pay a significantly reduced price. You knew it and accepted it. It's called theft (in the UK possibly it's still larceny). Standard policy for most big stores is termination, so you should feel pretty lucky you still have a job.
