Hiya Robert P,

Yes, you can upgrade the Inspiron 9300 display panel to WUXGA, here is how:

1) Get your hands on the panel and inverter you will be replacing. Here is an example on eBay of what you would want: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-A-DELL-INSPIRON-9300-17-WUXGA-LCD-SCREEN-W-INV_W0QQitemZ150156369731QQihZ005QQcategoryZ42187QQcmdZViewItem you might also try the Dell Spare Parts Hotline to inquire about availability and pricing at 1-800-449-3355 ext. 726997.

2) If you plan to do the installation yourself, you will need detailed instructions on disassembly and reassembly. Here is the official Dell Display Service Manual for your Inspiron 9300 which has the instructions you will need: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9300/sm/sullivaz.htm#wp1006390

Sorry but I can’t recommend a service to do the upgrade for you in this answer, but if you get stuck, e-mail me.

CONSIDERATIONS:
To be fair there are a few considerations I should mention.

* Many Inspiron 9300 notebooks were sold with the ATI Mobility Radeon x300-128Mb graphic adapter installed. This is a decent option but for graphic intensive applications or gaming it is not a great choice especially when driving a WUXGA display. Other options included the NVidia GeForce 7800 GTX - 256Mb and the GeForce 5600 - 256Mb, either of which would be more efficient.

Finally there are cost considerations. A new WUXGA panel with inverter starts around $290 which is not bad if you are doing the upgrade yourself.

If your laptop manufacturer produces a WUXGA panel for that model of laptop that is the same size, probably yes.
