I left home when I was 14 yrs.old.If I would have stayed home and got a job, yes,I would have paid my parents room and board. After all,'You are an adult'and its better to learn to be responsible now instead of later!!If you are under the age of 18,you should not have to pay for these things, unless you feel like helping out in a bad situation,at which you should be paid back.

I started working full time when I was 16. And yes I paid my parents rent for living there afterwards.

I went away to college at 19. Joined the armed forces at 21. Came back to visit once in awhile but never lived at home again until I came here to take care of my parents in 1995.

After I graduated, I paid my mom $10 a week. She felt that was more than enough (1965) even though I tried often to give her more...since I was seldom home. I'd work, eat and head out. Weekends were spent in Ocean City, Md. Then the end of September I left for the Navy, shortly before my 19th birthday.

I started climbing out the window when i was about 16 and legally left home when i was about 17. When i got my first job i always gave my mum most of my wage and she gave me money to live on It seemed that was the way it was done back then in the early 1960's

I left shortly after my 18th birthday. Came back at age 19 to bury my mother. Since I worked on foreign flag merchant ships every summer from age 11 to age 17 I guess I did contribute to the family income.
