Seriously, if Russell went back into the draft because this holdout has no end in sight, do you think he would be taken on the first day?

The Raiders dont have to kiss up to him. They have Culpepper and its not like they have a good enough team to make a serious run at the playoffs anyways. They can suck again next year and get McFadden, who is better then Russell.

Bo Jackson got drafted 1st round and decided to sit out and play baseball. The next year he went in the 7th round. Yeah Russell is going to lose alot of money if he doesnt sign with the Raiders. Not alot of teams would waste a high draft pick on a guy that wouldnt sign for 30 mil guarenteed and 60 mil over 6 seasons. All Russell is doing is showing all the owners and coaches that hes just there for the money and not the game.

No Jamarcus has not blown his shot. Russell would get pummeled trying to learn behind the Raiders OL as it is now anyway. And like you say, the Raiders have to sign him otherwise they completely wasted a No. 1 pick and he re-enters next years draft.

The best thing would still be if Russell signs, learns on the Raiders bench for this season and then starts next year. Perhaps the Raiders will have improved the OL at least a little by then.

We don't know what's going on between the Raiders and Russell. We do know the Raiders have one of the worst organizations in football. They pick Russell #1, but don't want to pay him #1 money. I give him some credit for being smart enough to know what kind of a team he's stuck with. Yes, he might lose some money, but maybe he won't sacrifice his career. When it comes to taking sides between the Raiders and any player it's a no-brainer. Look at what the Raiders did to one of their best receivers last year. Look at what they did to Marcus Allen.

Russell would have a difficult time being the #1 overall pick. He would (MAYBE) be taken on the first day but his money would suffer because there are a few QBs coming out next year who will be ready to come in and play rather than taking a year off like Russell would have done. Hell, the Raiders would probably take him again for a lesser price too! The kid can throw but sometimes you really have to lower your asking price!! He'll get picked if he goes NEXT year but HE is gonna be the one losing out on money!!!!

yes, russell should have understood from draft day that the raiders were in salary cap trouble. kiffen is there to straighten things out. kind of why they traded moss, salary cap issues and team chemistry. the more games russell holds out in hopes of more money, the more of his value is decreased as he's not learning anything by not being with the team.

actually they can sign Russell, and will still probably get Mcfadden next year too. Russell wouldn't have started anyway this year, even if he was the greatest quarterback ever; behind that line everyone would suck.
He should have signed thou, b/c preseason is the best learing point for young players. he lost alot of valuable learning time this year.

The Raiders have the rights to him...so he can't go and sign with anyone else...but I suppose its possible he can re-enter the draft...but yes, his stingyness about the contract will be noted by the NFL, so he wouldn't get as much next year...He should sign...and I think ultimately he will with the Raiders eventually...
