I try not to be cynical--the child inside me will have to be dragged away kicking and screaming. I'm 44, and I have almost every movie Disney ever made, not to mention several kid's books that I still read occasionally as comfort books. When the world overwhelms me, I tend to curl up with the dog and pop in a feel-good movie. My motto is you can get older, just don't get old.

I should be cynical. I grew up in a terrifying household. I had terrible things happen to me, and still do, on a regular basis. I have a brain tumor as well. But I also have three children. And every single time I see them smile in joy, I feel the cynicism slip from my shoulders. And every time I overcome something heavy, something which might have ruined others less strong, I become less cynical about myself. And therefore about the human race. And then I think of my heroes, especially Paulo Freire and MLK Jr., and to know that they existed and changed the world makes my heart glow, and softens the blow of the doofus we have for a president, and the thousands of people who have been killed in search of oil and personal fame and wealth. Also, thinking about the two people most likely to be voted as president next year makes me joyous -- we are SO LUCKY to be living in the era when either or both a woman and a black personal will be the president or vice president of the USA.

A healthy balance - more or less. Cynical enough to realize that if I give the homeless guy a buck, he'll probably spend it on liquor. But childlike enough to enjoy the feeling of charitability, and adult enough to realize that he's responsible for his own actions.

What really changed my point of view was a bout w/cancer. I was given 8 weeks w/o treatment at the time of diagnosis. That was six years ago. Now I travel and do things - like indulge my Johnny Depp crush - that other people think is nuts. And I don't care!

I think its the child inside of me that MAKES me cynical. The ability to laugh at the "wisdom" of adults is a singularly childish act, but to do it with an adult's knowledge is cynicism. When we were kids we'd laugh at logic and say "oh daddy's so silly" but when we, as adults, understand more we just say "you're full of ****."

Nowadays, you have to be synical because everyone's conducts are motivated primarily by self-interest. People wanna become your friends because you have something they want or you have something that you can offer them in returing of this friendship.

We live in the cynical world today, everybodies are out there for themselves. The selfless deeds that we used to know are no longer exist.

If you want to live among the beast called human, you have to be cynical.

Alive and kicking!

One of the advantages of being a massive ADD victim is that if you hurt me I get over things really fast. I'm left with a vague notion that I am upset with you, but I can't quite put my finger on why, unless you remind me.

I also never quite got over the wonder of discovering the world around me, or the sense of joy, contentment, and universal balance one feels when one takes hold of a fresh chocolate chip cookie.
