Okay...how many of you had the screening done?
If so, what were the results?
Did your child really turn out as bad as they said it would?

I am almost 41. I am going to have the nuchal fold testing done. My doc is recommending that I do amnio too, because of my age.

The thing is: I won't terminate the pregnancy anyway, so what good will it do me to have invasive testing done......

I keep hearing that most nuchal fold screen results are much worse than how the baby actually turns out when born.

What's your opinion on this?

my opinion is its best to be prepared for the worst. If the tests indicate that you will have a baby with downs and you choose to continue the pregnancy then you can begin your journey into the life of being a special needs mother. Find support groups, investigate early intervention programs, as well as have the extra time to really absorb what has happened, and to grieve (which you will, believe me). And, if after all that your baby is born 100% normal, your Joy will be that much greater!!!!

I hope this helps, it isn't exactly like your situation but I relate...

I have virus that can be passed along to my baby. There is a 5% chance of transmission during birth and I'm not supposed to have an amnio done because there's the possibility of my blood getting to the baby.
I was offered the downs syndrome test. It only gives you a likelihood of your baby having downs. After that test, if the chances were high, you would have an amnio for a neg/pos result.
I forfeited the whole thing because I wouldn't care either way and the results would only worry me for 6 months if the chances were high.
