I have NEVER done drugs (at least non-herbal drugs). However, in the past, I once dated a woman who did coke, heroin and crystal meth. I would never do it again. She was fun to date until she got the urge for a fix. Have you ever had your significant other ditch you so that they could go to their dealer? It totally sucks. Or, go from nice to psycho when the withdrawals kick in? I'd never date a drug user again. Never again. I don't know what happened to her.

An "actual drug addict". Does that mean that there imposters out there? Funny, I don't know anyone who would aspire to be an addict. Yes, I have known many and been close to several. Most were functional, one is nonfunctional. Their drugs of choice: coke, marijuana, alcohol respectively. I knew them from work/mutual friends/family. They have all used sporadically for years. Did they get better? Well, most of them are in recovery at the moment, but my theory is that once you cross that line to becoming an addict, you spend the rest of your life fighting it. You're either using or recovering. I believe one of my close friends is using at the moment, but I'm not sure. She's not admitting it.

Several, but my brother and one of my childhood friends are the closest to me.My brother was functioning and my friend was non-functioning after about 8 yrs of it.
My brother has gotten better, but it has destroyed his life. He was a Calvin Klein tuxedo model and ended up homeless in Arkansas after a stint in jail. He started with pot and ended up dabbling in crack. That journey took 9 yrs. Now he’s working 80 hrs a week to survive and pay the fines he owes from DUIs. He still doesn’t have his driver’s license back. He’s trying to go to school to improve his situation, but has to take every other semester off so he can get enough money.
My other friend also started with pot in high school and eventually got into heroin. She tried to clean up every few months, but was never able to beat it. In 2005, she died of AIDs that she contracted from sharing needles. She had some form of drugs in her system from the time she was 16 to the time she died at 27.

Yes.She funtioned just enough to get by but I would not consider that functioning. Among many others the worst I knew was my friend's mom. She used a lot of crack but she did actually quit now she is completely addicted to pills. She actually hospitalized herself a couple months ago...I think she's getting too old for it and her body just can't take it anymore. She said she started in the 60s but who knows...how pathetic a life is that...her kids are definately a product of her disgusting parenting skills

Yes I have. Quite a few. Knew them from a half way house I worked at. I don't have contact with them now so I don't know if they got better or not. I did have to do pee tests on some sometimes because they would come home messed up. Had some girls pass out cause they O/d'd on heroin. Saw some really scary stuff there.

That was in High School when I saw a close friend of my being addicted to cocaine. I told him to stop the cocaine abuse, but got a punch on my face instead. In the end, I've no other choices but to report to the authority.
Whether he hates me or not doesn't matter as long as he's free of drugs.
Cheers :)

Yes, all were functioning. One was me, a few others have been close friends. Myself and a few of my friends got better, over time, just grew away from drugs. Others died. Our drugs of choice coke, mescaline, mushrooms, lsd, opium, weed, nitrous, pills, excstacy, hash...etc. Most of us used for 6-10 yrs. habitually. I can honestly say that finding "god" didn't really help, I think that's what works for some people. I hated their solutions, but am better adjusted now, personally.

Why didn't you say Internet Addict? Than I could have answered me. Yes, sadly, I do know a functioning addict.
