A quarter is mathematically written as (1/4).so 3 of these give (3/4) since "of" is a representative of *.There fore,(3/4) of the 36 is [(3/4)*36]=27. But this is an ans of how many art majors are women.So,let X rep the total popn & therefore,(3/4)x=the number of women who are art majors.Since ratio of women:men us 3:1.

Well, if there are 36 art majors and 3/4 of them are women, that would mean there are 36 * (3/4) women art majors
36/4 = 9 and 9 * 3 = 27.
So, 27 of the 36 art majors are women.

I think you've GOT to be kidding. This is 3rd grade arithmetic.
Half of 36 is 18. That's a half
Half of 18 is 9. That's a quarter.
A half plus a quarter is three-quarters.
Therefore three-quarters equals 18 plus 9 or 27.
27 women are art majors
