I am a college junior who has just transferred to a new school.
I don't know anybody and haven't met any new friends yet and I am getting sooooooo homesick because of it.
What can I do to meet people without seeming desperate?

Do you have any interests? Poetry, music, reading, hiking, singing, the environment, sports, etc. I guarantee your school has a club that is dedicated to any interest you have. Check out their website and go to a meeting...It may seem corny, but hey- that's why they have a club/meetings- to attract and meet other people with similar interests. In my experience, student clubs are so happy to see a new face in attendance, they'll be falling all over themselves to shake your hand. Good Luck!

I know "join an organization" is the cliche' answer, but it really helped me meet people. Try to start conversations with people in your classes -- a simple compliment like "Hey, I like your shoes, where'd you get them?" can get you started, or a question about an assignment is another way to go. But don't get too frustrated if people don't want to talk. It can take a long time to find someone who's open to meeting new people.
