I was wondering, could you buy an old 2+2 convertible, say a ford Thunderbird or a Falcon, and somehow add a detachable hardtop? I know first generation thunderbirds come with a detachable hardtop, but they only seat 2.

I'm sure that you could somehow. With a 2+2 car the top may be a little bit heavier and harder to handle.

I can't say that I have heard of any companies making them unless they are for the old 30's cars.

Ford did make a retractible hardtop back in 57-59. Look in Hemming's motor news to find a few of them for sale.
