It MIGHT run it but don't expect much of a good performance from that spec's you mentioned. I advice you don't upgrade to vista until service pack is released.
Also, you should have 2GB of ram so you could run vista with no problems.
And you should get a new vid card so you don't have to worry about vista's aero. I'd suggest you get at least an nvidia geforce 8600 GT.
Don't upgrade to vista now anyway , it got loads of bugs.
And upgrade your PC as well before you install vista.

Probably not.
For the full aero glass effect you need to be running DX10. That means, for the current generation of cards, you'll have to go with ATi, as nVidia still has compatability problems with their DX10 drivers, and ATi has had 18+ months working with them in production chips (ie: Xbox 360 has an ATi chipset, and nVidia truned down the drivers for DX10 when Microslut offered them to their development team more than a year prior to Vista's official release.) Come the new year, nVidia may have fixed the problems with DX10...or not. We'll have to wait and see.

I have Windows Vista Basic on a 512 ram computer and honestly, I have talked to both a computer tech and Dell themselves about the slow performance. They both suggested running at LEAST 1 gig of ram and that is just for Vista Basic. The minimum operating requirements for Vista Premium is 1 gig, but honestly, I would run more than that for Vista Premium. I am going to upgrade my ram to 1 gig, because running it close to the minimum requirements causes my computer to freeze up and not respond as quickly as it should. I believe it would be the same running Vista Premium with the minimum of 1 gig ram. I would run 2 gigs if possible with that OS.
