Minor age baseball in high school usually have the "mercy rule" if a team score too much runs over other team that can end the game early.

But the college and professional baseball leagues aren't allows have the "mercy rule" because they want the game end, not end the game with the forfeits.

I don't think that MLB should establish the "mercy rule" because many people like to watch the end game that see which team is going to win the game.

I almost asked this question myself, but changed my mind. I play fast pitch softball where we do have the mercy rule. But I understand why the pros don't have it. It is all about numbers with these guys. The most HR's, RBI's, etc. They want as may innings as possible to increase their numbers. When I watched my Yankees being crushed the other day 16-0, I had that mercy rule on my mind. But the Detroit players had the right to finish the game so they could increase their numbers. Remember, in pro baseball it is all about numbers.

NEVER. They're professionals, they can take a loss. They're paid to play the game, so play the game until it's over. It's still their job to get the other guys out, no matter how many runs the other guys have scored.

I've seen some bizarre things happen in Major League Baseball over the years, and I very much remember that 10-run eighth from the Mets a few years ago. The mercy rule in Major League Baseball would be ridiculous.

No.

Granted that a 30-3 rout would be a good reason to call one but still no.

If that were the case they should enact a salary cap and a ceiling on pay... that way there wouldn't be these astronomically outrageous salaries that are paid to some players and teams would be able to have a more well rounded team. I may not be from NY or Tampa but there are two prime examples of what i am referring to. NY has all the money in the world to hire players that can make 100+ million only because they have a nearly endless bank account (thank you Mr. Steinbrenner) and Tampa is suffering from a lack of money and are unable to hire such heavy hitters as A-Rod, Clemens, and Jeter.

So if a mercy rule were established in MLB they might as well put a cap on pay.

Well come on when the score is 30-3 I think that the game should have been called before it go there. I mean I don't think the "mercy" rule should be allowed to kick in until after 7 innings but I think it should be an option, espically in a double-header.
Also I wouldn't call it a forfeit, I would call it the game was called. Just treat it like a game that was called on account of rain or something.

No, because if you take the mercy rule in effect you reward the winning team too much by having them not use there pitchers, and you also eliminate the chance of the amazing comeback, i was at shea when the mets came back from 10 runs down against the braves many years ago, and if that game was put into a mercy rule i would be a sad little boy

No, that would be stupid. People pay good money to go see a full 9 innings of a baseball game, regardless of whether their team loses. How would you feel if you paid to see a game, paid for gas to go to the ballpark, bought food and everything, and then left after the 3rd inning because the team got mercied? And what if it was YOUR team that lost? It would suck.

No, the MLB should never establish the mercy rule

No. There is no room for the "mercy rule" in any professional sport. Fans pay good money to see the game and should have the oppurtunity to watch an entire game even if their team is winning or losing by 30 runs.

I tink that rule would take away from the game what if a team is down by 10 runs and in the ninth inning they score 11 to win. Mercy rule could take away from what could happen and it would just wreck the game.

no it should not be in place i do think that the league so do reshuffling of the divisions like they do in highschools. in other words PUT THE GOOD TEAMS IN THE TOP DIVISION and the lower ones in the lower divisions.

its just down right wrong that teams like the yanks' get to beat up on the devil rays and toronto etc. while the only true competitve divison out there is the NL WEST..yes i said it.

it worse that the angels can get an easy 20 wins by beating up on texas and seattle (lucky this year) and the a's.

or even worse that the NL central is full of teams that are pretty damn bad. but still one of them will get a chance at a playoff spot simply because its ALWAYS BEEN a crappy division.

Obviously not! I wanna watch a whole game and not perhaps just a half... ´Cause if I was going to a game and a team was ahead by maybe 15 runs I still wanna watch the game til´ the end. ´Cause then I´ve also paid for a ordinary game ticket... Not to be stingy.. Because I wanna watch a whole game. I love baseball, you know! :)
