the rubbish comes and goes (wednesday-ish) but the rotting rat at the bottom of bin no 2 is here to stay (has done so for the past four months so you can imagine)

My garbage (which is equivalent to your rubbish) goes out every second Tuesday. That is also the day they pick up yard waste (in a separate truck)...MUST be bagged in craft paper bags, or in rigid containers that can be dumped.
My recyclables go out the alternate Tuesdays. They are supposed to be put out in rigid containers also (we don't have to separate them now), but around here we put them in clear blue plastic bags because it is so windy most days that the paper gets spread all over the whole street if you don't contain it....sometimes it even gets so windy, that you have to tie a couple of the bags together so they don't blow away.
EVERY week we put out kitchen waste, which should be going out to my compost heap, but I have gotten lazy about this. They provide rigid containers that you use exclusively for this...one for inside the house, and one for putting out to the curb. The idea being that you dump the full house container (which has a locking lid--and a sprinkle of carpet freshener works beautifully for stinky stuff) into the outside container. A few years ago the garbage collection department ASKED that we use plastic bags inside the bins because the smell of emptying raw kitchen waste was getting to the collectors.

Tuesday, although collected is a misnomer, we still have to rely on black bags where i live and the dustmen have a habit of snagging the bags on walls and thus leaving a trail of refuse behind them, also in making as much noise as possible at 7am in the morning except in the run up to Christmas when they suddenly get very efficient and pick up every bit of refuse they drop. I wonder why??? Hmmmmm.

Every other Wednesday, but its not often enough she is still with me, whining about me being unreasonable and despotic !what ever that means? Now she wants full access to the computer says she does not understand why she should be subject too parental controls, when our sons have free access. Of course she is not going to get them ( I am the official account holder) Its a man thing and she will have to get use to it.

I have no idea. I live in an apartment complex with a single, huge dumpster/compactor for the whole place (several hundred apartments). Residents drop their trash off at will and when the container is full, it's carted off. I've seen the truck come to cart away the full container, but can't remember what day(s).

Twice a week. Wednesdays and Satrudays. Every other Wednesday they also pick up recyclables. Trash bill is about $48 dollars for a 3-month period.
