I have used mapp gas for refrigeration( all domestic) and some commercial 3/4 and 5/8. 5/8 can get iffy , so use straight silver solder.

If you go to an industrial cylinder gas supplier who sells oxygen, acetylene, and welding cover gases, you can get a Prestolite torch set for just a little more. It uses Prestolite gas (an alloyed gas based on acetylene ) and is naturally aspirated, which means you don't have an oxygen cylinder . The gas cylinders are available in several sizes from as small as a propane cylinder to much larger. It burns hot enough for hard solder, and silver solder like referigeration systems use.

On smaller lines and for small patches, ok, but for larger pipes it doesn't have the heat. It would be less bulky when dragging under a house or on the roof, however. They are also valuable to thaw a frozen compressor.
