Queen II is my favorite.
Why? It rocks. The musicianship and singing are amazing.
BUT, the most important reason is the album's shocking originality.
It simply does not sound like any other record recorded ever.
Totally unique. Brian May sounds like no one else.

the first two albums are generally under-rated at the best of times, those were the days when the band couldn't get arrested let alone get a hit.
these days a band wouldn't be given the time to make three albums before the hits started coming.
there seems to be more of a rock emphasis in the first two, they really go at it like a steamhammer.they are quite unlike anything else the band made.
the first was recorded in 1971 but not released until 1973,the band were given free use of trident studios in london in order to test out the equipment !,that's how the disc came to be made.
by the time of its' release the band thought the material two years old and had moved on quite considerably, they weren't too enthusiastic about promoting it.
as for queen 2,they never made anything even remotely like it again.brian may and roger taylor dislike it to this very day.

'News of the World' because of the twin iconic anthems, 'We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions and it's spooky album cover with the robot.

'A Night at the Opera' because of the great song '39 written by Brian May.

Too tough to choose. I like 'The Game' very much too.

My best friend always liked 'Sheer Heart Attack' best.

My fist concert ever was Queen in Essen, West Germany 1981. It was during 'The Game' tour.

I agree with you.... Liar, My Fairy Queen etc... great tracks . Saw them at Chatham Cental hall in 1973 as support to Mott the Hoople... They blew the whole audience away. We witnessed the start of something BIG and we were not wrong.

I like their 3rd album "Sheer Heart Attack" due to the fact there are so many good songs on one album, notably "Stone Cold Crazy", "Brighton Rock & "Now I'm Here". They became too arty after that album!!
