It's totally normal to be scared of going to the OBGYN. I am not sure if you need to go yet or not. Usually, you start going a little later after you have become sexually active (which I hope you haven't at age 15). I would suggest going to a woman, because they tend to know what is comfortable or uncomfortable since they have gone through these exams themselves. It really isn't as bad as you think it is. The speculum is lubricated and they usually use a warming light "down there" while they do it. I'm not going to lie and say that it is a pleasant experience, but it is VERY important that you do go sometime in the next couple years. You probably don't have anything wrong with you, but there are things that can be wrong and you will not have any symptoms at all. If something was wrong, it is best for you to find out sooner than later. Please, trust me, you need to do this. It is just part of being a woman. You will be just fine--I PROMISE.

I was soo scared the first time I went! I didn't go for a long time cuz I didn't want someone poking around down there but I have a history of cancer and Illness in the family that deals with that part of the body. I'ts not that bad. I always ask for a female doctor because it makes me feel better. The "tongs" are cold and there is some pressure but it doesn't hurt. They are very careful and they go at your pace so you don't get scared. You really need to go, at least once a year. It's good for you. Take your mom or grandma or a close friend with you. My mom sat by me and held my hand and talked to me the whole time. It was uncomfortable but it was over quick and I had a clean bill of health. Check out planned parenthood, they usually do it for free and most of the doctors are girls so it's a little less weird. Hope this helps

You go for precatuionary reasons to make sure everythings normal with you. Eventually you will have to go like when your pregnant, you don't think they look down there then?. Its really not as bad as it sounds my frist time they didn't stick their hands up there, they just used their little speculum, which is uncomfortable but not painful. It's just uncomfortable, but wouldn't you want to be uncomfortable for a couple minutes and then know that theres nothing wrong with you?

ok they dont shove hands lol its just a finger to make sure everything is okay... The thing that they put in there just applies pressure just to make sure they can see in there just so that they can partially see if theres anything wrong.. And they swab your area.. I mean it can be dangerous not to go just incase u end up developing cysts on ur ovaries.. And trust me THEY'RE NOT A BLESSING! They hurt... Its really up to you.. But it couldnt do any harm.. And when its all done.. You can be normal again!! So I mean its a little pressure and it feels a little weird.. But its better to be safe then sorry!. Good luck

At age 15 it's unnecessary to see the gynecologist unless you are having difficulties with your periods, if they are very heavy, if you experience very severe cramping.

Otherwise, it's fine to wait til at least age 18 or when you become sexually active (later) in life.

A gyn exam is an essential part of a woman's health. Certain tests will eventually need to be done as you grow older, to screen for things such as cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer.

Relax. You have some time before needing to be seen.

Do you like to be healthy?

Do you eventually want kids?

Going for a pap smear is a routine thing every year for girls.

You should have one either BEFORE you plan on having sex, after you start menstruating, or if there are issues with your periods you are concerned about.

Its not something to freak out about. Its a little uncomfortable but it is done for your HEALTH.

Please relax and don't freak out about it.

You have to go. It is a fact of life, and part of being a woman. You need to be tested for genetic issues - which they can test for with your breast exam and your pap smear. This is really important for your health.
Even if you are a virgin, you still need to go - they can test you for cervial cancer, etc.

Tell your gyno that it is your first time to go, and that you are very nervous and scared. Ask them to explain everything they are doing to you, and what the purpose is. I am sure he/she will be understanding, gentle, and patient with you. Maybe it would be better if your mom, older sister, or close friend were in there with you to make you more comfortable.

This is not optional, sorry.

Nobody LIKES going to the gyno - I hate it, myself. It sucks. But, it is a part of life, and our sexual health as women.

Thats for women who are sexually active.
If you are in that case it's a good idea but usually when your a little older. You have to remember not every bodies the same so don't rely on the fact that someone hasnt gone all their life and are fine, plus there are infections that some women have that don't have symptoms and it will appear on the culture.

that's not why they look. they look to see if your body is properly functioning in the inside. they stick the fingrt to see what size you are and get that size spec for you, so it'll be less painful. so listen to ya granny, and go to the obgyn, and let them see if you are really ok. people with AIDS don't always look like they have AIDS , so take ya lil self and handle ya bidnezz
