I have a 20 gallon aquarium someone gave to me because they moved. Anyway right now I have 2 goldfish that are very naughty and they attack and kill the algae & snails I had in the tank. When my friend had fish she had 3 goldfish and some kind of silver colored fish and they left the algae eater alone. Just wondering what fish would be compatible with the bottom feeders.

Guppies tend to leave most things alone, as well as tetras. those are both smaller fish though. A larger "nice" fish is a silver dollar If you go to a fish store they should have labels that say either community, semi-aggressive, or aggressive. you should look for community fish. Also, oddly enough, the individual fish can make a big difference too. We once had an angel fish that was completely placid. Then it died so we got another one, and it was much more aggressive and had to be taken back. shrimp and small frogs also do nicely, although the shrimp tend to hide for very long periods of time if you have too much cover.

goldfish should be kept in species tanks, goldfish only.
they're not only bullies, but also coldwater and big waste producers, meaning messy water very quickly. a 20 gallon tank is already over-stocked with two goldfish anyway!

the only sub-tropical "algae eaters" are too sensitive to live with goldfish.

goldfish will pick at algae anyway. anything else unsightly can be cleaned off by you during water changes.

Well, you have goldfish and you want more fish. I am afraid to say that it might be better for you to get just more goldfish because tropical fish would not be suitable fish for your tank!

I personally have a red wag platy and two mickey mouse platies and 2 small gouramis and 2 apple snails. They all get along very nicely, so I would say platies and gouramis are best with snails.

Goldfish are middle feeders and bottom feeders. you need some top feeders like guppies and plattys.
