I would take the piece that the fly landed on and cut it out or throw it away or something, but I wouldn't ask them to re-cook it.

Haven't you ever been to a picnic? We have a very bad problem with flies at the restaurant I work at, and you know what? There is nothing you can do to fix the problem. So I hope your friend realizes that if a fly flew on her sandwich while it was being made, do you really think no flies managed to land on any of the ingredients a thousand times before you got there??!! Wise up chick, flies land on food, and when you turn the lights out at night, the roaches come out!

Wow, that just happened the other night to a couple sitting next to me. They did send it back. However, the fly got stuck in the frosting of the food. The waiter came back and they got to talking. I guess the chef thought that it went out that way. The couple made sure the waiter told the chef it was not his fault.
If the fly just kind of landed on the food and moved on, that's the way it goes, it happens. Now if it got stuck, I would send it back. It was just a mishap, and any good restaurant should understand. I don't think you should be picking at it. Life is too short, if you're embarrassed to asked, just leave it. Things happen all the time, it could turn into a nice laugh down the road.

Come on people. Yes it should be asked to replace it. The food service person should NOT give the customer a hard time about it. I know they would most likely not eat the food you are asking to have re-made.
The rating that is given each food place is given based on many things to include how clean they are, how safe they are and so on. If there is a fly problem it will be addressed.
A fly here and there is actually understandable, but the reaction to such is what is in question.
The real problem is what happens to the food while it is not in our eyes view. Hopefully the place you and your friend went knows how to handle the food and keeps it at the right temperature and throws away questionable food.

A fly's feet only take up about 1/4 of an inch on some food. Just pinch off that spot and leave it on the plate, don't eat it.
Think about this.... while that food is being prepared, there is probably some flys landing on the ingredients that the cooks don't see, or don't care about.
You're probably going to end up eating some fly "touched" food anyway, and won't even know about it.
The main thing to do is.... if you see flys in a eating place, and you can't handle it, then don't patronize that place anymore.
That's one reason I don't go in a Burger King place anymore.

I'd scoop out the fly and the food it landed on and just keep eating. The rest of the food is still good so why would I want to wait another 20 minutes to get a new meal when I hungry?

I would just eat it. If I were at home and a fly landed on my sandwich, I'd eat it. I'd expect the same at a restaurant, although I appreciate your right to ask for a new one.

Probably not but it also depends on where I am at.
If I am at a 5 star restaurant where there shouldnt be a bunch of flies flying around then yes I MIGHT.
But if I am at McDonalds then no that would be a little too prissy

Happens all the time...need to be more careful to keep those hands waving them away. I'd rather eat it than wait 20 minutes for another order that they spit on!
