Ethan M posted a question about both parties being equally corrupt and several people responded by saying that the Dems were more corrupt than Republicans...I would love to hear people's justification for this, as all of the corruption charges I have seen , besides jefferson, have been Republicans.

I was not one of those posters but will be the first to say that one side is just as corrupt as the other.

It's a sad time when you reach the point of having to argue over which is LESS corrupt.

How are dems more corrupt than republicans ??

Easy answer.

Clinton administration:
38 indictments
33 convictions

Bush administration:
1 indictment
1 conviction

That shows democrats are 33 times more corrupt than republicans.

How many former Congressmen are in federal prison right now ?

Democrats - 15
Republicans - 3

Get the picture yet ?

And i won't even go into, how many Democratic party campaign contributors have been convicted of violating campaign finance laws.

Heck, remember the Gore Chinese campaign scandle ??

15 people were sent to prison for that one fund raiser alone, 18 people fled the US to avoid proscution.
70 people involked their rights under the 5th amendment.

It's because the Democratic flavor of corruption skirts the boundaries of what is and isn't illegal. Maybe corruption is too strong of a word, perhaps unethical is better. Examples:

They will always raise taxes! If you do the budget math for their tax raises, money magically appears to be missing from what went in. Usually that money gets routed to some pet project through pork barrel legislation. These pet projects go towards campaigns after changing hands several times. Effectively, instead of using big business' money primarily, the Democrats fund their campaigns on your tax dollar!

They support racist policies like affirmative action. Affirmative actions tries to correct the imbalance of races receiving jobs. It does so by mandating quotas. This is wrong, the best people should get the job. If minorities aren't getting jobs then correct the problem at the education level. Give them the tools to get ahead and they will, don't force under-qualified minorities into jobs and call the problem 'fixed'.

Democrats are just as likely to get involved in a scandal, but when they do the individuals and the parties pretend like nothing went wrong (the same attitude they take on terrorism). At least Republicans stand up and speak their mind, like they did against Gonzales, Craig and Foley. Those people were removed, and to me this is satisfactory; I don't want those people representing me.

Oh silly Democrat! You are (in typical, ignoramus fashion) only referencing current events! How dare you take this out of context and then moralize that Democrats are less corrupt! Democrats are more corrupt because they refuse to recognize that basic human nature is flawed. Republicans get rid of their crud-buckets when it becomes apparent they are corrupt (like Mark Foley, etc.).

I won't even bore you with a list of corrupt Democrats, because my fingers would get tired with all of the typing. I have yet to see a case of voter fraud that was attributed to a Republican. But the fact that Ted Kennedy remains in office after killing a girl is repugnant. Bill Clinton, had we applied the same criteria for impeachment that was leveled against Nixon, would have been out of office in his first three months just for the FBI Filegate scandal. The big difference is that we do not defend and excuse and 'normalize' their corrupt behavior ("Everybody lies about adultery"), we kick them out.

No Party in general is more corrupt than any other. It's people who are corrupt, regardless of party affiliation. It's just that for several years the GOP seems to have been attracting more corrupt people.

I figure they are probably equal in their corruption. The fact that we are sitting here talking about who is the worst should speak volumes. Isn't this supposed to be the best governing body in the civilized world? And yet we put up with it. So what is worse? Their corruption or our complacency that we continue to vote for it.

Construction company X donates to Republican candidate for local office. Republican candidate wins. In that office he pushes for a new project to overhaul a bridge. Fixes the bidding so that company X wins the contract and makes a large profit on the project, primarily because the bidding was rigged. That we all see as corruption, and there are laws against it.

Construction Workers' Union Y (the only union representing construction workers) donates to Democrat candidate for local office. Democrat candidate wins. In that office he pushes for a new project to overhaul a bridge. Changes the regulations such that whoever wins has to pay 1.5 times the present rate, which itself is 2 times the rate that's paid in the private sector to similar workers. Also requires it to be a union job. Either company wins the project and the union makes out like bandits.

This is not illegal and Democrats don't see it as corruption.

But everyone else does.

They aren't. Don't let the GOP apologists lower the bar so they look better.

Why do you care? Since you're all-knowing and know what ALL Republicans think, then it shouldn't matter, correct? Why you think you always have to be right about yourself and your party I will never know.
