The baby looked about 4 or 5 months old.

I don't know what I would have done. I personally do not think it is safe nor do I care to see it at all. Babies may laugh and the parent may enjoy seeing the baby laugh, but I think it gives the baby a "mini whip-lash," and I hate when people do that. Babies that age are so easy to entertain, why can't they find something else to do with the child?

You say "infant" but how old would you say she is & just how much was she being swished?

I will gently swish my daughter upside down [she's 9 months] at home but never for very long & never roughly. I sure wouldn't do it in a walmart over that hard, dirty floor.

If I saw someone else doing it I would probably make some smarta$s comment to my DH & keep moving as long as it didn't look like she was harming her child or upsetting her.

It would definitely depend on how the child was reacting to it. My daughter things being upside down is hilarious, but I have a good grip on her, don't swing her around, and certainly wouldn't do it over something as hard as the Walmart floor. But if the baby liked it and she didn't drop it, I guess it's not so bad. Not something I'd do though.

My daugher's father swings her upside down. I dont particularly care for it, but I know that men play with their kids differently than most women. Quite frankly, the child was in my womb being tossed around for the last few weeks of pregnancy...fully formed and if that didnt cause any damage i'm sure a little rough housing wont either.

I wouldn't do it at walmart... but at this age, my daughter would laugh her head off at being held upside down... I would only ever do it over my bed or the couch though.

I'm not sure how I'd react to someone doing it in the middle of a store though.... how was the baby reacting? If he/she was laughing like mine would be, then I'd not think twice about it. If baby did not like it, or was being punished in this manner for something... was tense, red faced, holding breath (common reflex), or screaming - I'd over react to get the mother's attention... like

"OH MY GOD HE'S CHOKING! DO YOU NEED HELP, SOMEONE CALL 911???"

Every parent handles their child differently. If it appears that she was just doing it to have fun with her baby then butt out. If the child is not crying or looking scared then it is fine. Some people are more comfortable with doing these things with their kids. I on the other hand get sick when I see my husband playing around with my daughter because they play rough and I always have the fear that she will get hurt. But she never has and they have fun. Unless the mother is abusing her child or doing something to intentionally harm the baby then it is their business only.

Maybe they were playing. I swing my niece all the time.

Was the infant crying, or screaming, did the mom look like she was loosing it or something. Is so, then I would have reported her.

Those buggers using the toilets to wash their babies hair again. Go home and use your own water you tight sods!

depending on the age of the child i would like to think she was only playing a little too rough with her. but if she was being mean and the child was a tiny baby i would have probably smacked the **** out of her! i dont even know what i would have done!
