I have a 1987 RX7, and can't get the driver door open?

Question

The key will turn part way in the lock, however, the inside lock is stuck in the middle position, and I can not move it up or down. How do I get the door open? I have crawled in from the passenger side, and tried to push the lock while pulling the door handle, to no avail. Good advise only please.....

There is a lever that is part of the outside door handle on this model that breaks when they get up around 100,000 miles. Pull the outside handle up and see if a part looks broken just inside the door. Compare with how the passenger side looks. The rod should attach near the rear of the two hinges on the door handle. Sometimes, when the handle breaks, the rod gets jammed in the key lock mechanism. If you can get the rod out of the way, you should be able to open the door from the inside. Also roll down the window and look inside while moving the outside door handle. Again, compare with the passenger side door. Use a coat hanger to get wire out of the way and get door open. Will probably have to replace outside door handle. Much easier to get inside door panel off with door open. Once had a guy that broke both drivers and passenger door handles. Had to get in through the back hatch.

If the lock is totally stuck and wont move no matter what, there probably something broken on the locking mechanism itself. You'll have to take off the door panel (get the screw behind the inside door handle and all the bolts on the armrest then lift the panel straight up and off. There will be a plastic bag lookin cover, peel it back and look at the lock itself. The design is pretty straight forward so you might able to figure it out, or atleast give us more info on whats going on. I've never seen an RX-7 lock totally jam like that.

the safetiest way to do it is call a locksmith, or you can use a flat heavy metal sheet and try to move the lock by yourself but doing this may cause (in some cases) inner door damage, it can damage a power window, brake some plastic pins and then door dont open or dont lock

and when the door get finally open ask the locksmith if he can fix the key entry if not get a new one

umm you can call a lock smith they can use a inflatable bag that pushes the door frame away from the window to where you can see down and maybe see that something is blocking it or if you dont care you can cut the lock from the inside and not be abel to lock it....just somt tips oh and btw, nice car ^_^
