Ok guys, don't break my balls - I was in a rush - just wanted to know whether you agree with the statement or not - next time I'll be sure to actually ask a question.

One of those nice convenient ideas that help some people deny the truth and live without conflict of conscience.

Is God a construct of the human mind? Maybe, maybe not. However,

If God does exist
And if we cannot know that God exists
Then does this make God a construct of the human mind despite his existing?

Is religion the preserve of the feeble minded? I have trouble with this question as I have no definition for "feeble minded". What does this term mean? It implies that some mental human characteristics are weak in comparison to others. But how are you measuring one characteristic against another in this way?

Once upon a time there was nothing, except an idea. As it was the only idea, it had to have a name, so it called itself God, which is as good a name as any.

Then, just like amoeba split to create new amoeba, this idea split. This kept happening over and over, but the original idea - God - still existed.

Now, if we believe that God doesn't exist, it doesn't alter the fact that it does exist. An idea hasn't got feelings, so God isn't even upset about our opinions.

Clever people have, over the years, developed many different and strange beliefs and practices based on trying to understand what the original idea, God, is. So I think it can't be said to be the preserve of the feeble minded. Rather, it's the enquiring mind which tries to understand a complicated idea.

You could refer Marx's saying: "Religion is the people's opium" but then try to ask to God... what has marxism done in so many countries where religion was forbidden - human beings have that need. The more honestly and clean is understand the less negative becomes. And We're talking only on disadvantages on being religious. Advantages come with inner perception with no impositions and really good intents on social terms - if used to kill is a more than bad thing

I once read that if God didn't exist, man would have to create him. It would be hard to imagine that everything we are happened by pure chance--that life just happened to come into being on a planet able to support it, that we just happened to evolve the way we did, that other creatures on the planet share so many characteristics with us (2 eyes, 1 mouth, 2 ears, etc.). Science has pretty much proven the Big Bang theory, but didn't something (or Someone) have to start the whole process off in the first place?

Yup!.. "God is a construct of the human mind, and religion is the preserve of the feeble minded..."

Go was invented as an untouchable father figure, to quell the unruley parentless teens of the time.. about 2000-years ago.. when and where bratty mindless kids were robbing, and screwing, and fighting, and killing, and running around in vicious gangs.. and not paying any taxes...

The sci-fi writers, of the time, gave the kids a new almighty invisible-daddy, what wanted all the things done that the authors wanted done...

Not only is that true, but neuroscientists have demonstrated your statement, at least the part regarding god being a human construct. They have even come up with a name...the so-called 'god-gene'. It was a survival mechanism evolved over the eons to help our primitive barbaric ancestors cope with the hostile environment. Since obsolete genes do not die over night, we'll be seeing the majority of the earth's population with a distorted worldview for some time to come.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

The only reason most people go to church is because they either like the Social Interaction or want to show the neighbours how pious and "God Fearing" they are.

If there is a God does anybody seriously believe that such a powerful being is so infernally egotistical that he needs us to worship him to make him feel wanted?

I always thought that the Bible was a novel written by someone many years ago, and we just kinda found it and accpeted all it's stories as truths. Maybe in 3,000 years from now someone will find a ragged copy of harry potter and think it truely happened and he will be considered a God!!!! I do believe in a higher power, I have had some really good things happen for me and I know someone is up there on my side!!!

Personally I find it incredible egotistic that man can believes he created God.

It is not a feeble mind but a humble mind that know God.

We should not ridicule the feeble minded for their belief. Instead, we should help them on the path to understanding. Through education and patience, some may come to learn that their beliefs are only a means for the powerful to perpetuate their position of power.
