My husband first got me into L&O, and then our interest expanded into SVU. Then we got hooked on "the Edgar-suit guy" in CI. Long story...
Vincent D'Onofrio was in Men in Black; his character is named Edgar, who gets killed and his body, or 'skin' taken over by an alien. All through the movie they refer to him as the "the Edgar-suit guy"! So when we first got into CI, that's what I called him, because I didn't know his real name, and I hadn't seen the show enough to learn his character's name. Anyway, now Goren is my favorite character out of any L&O series!
So obviously CI is my fave, followed by SVU, which CI on TNT. We also like L&O, esp, Sam Waterston, but it became slightly inferior after we lost Jerry Orbach. :(

I love the original and all the spin offs. Its one of the greatest creative TV ideas that there has been. I love svu and ci if I had to pick only because I don't like Denis Farino. I think Vincent Donofrio is great and Mariska Hargata. (sorry for the miss spellings)

I think all these shows that promote an identification with prosecutors are having a disastrous affect on our legal system, since all juries consist of people who watch them,at least enough to be influenced. The gist of the plot or premise is that the accused is always guilty. This undermines your average person's already limited ability to accept the dictum of innocent until proven guilty. In the '60's you could get a fair trial because people watched courtroom dramas like "Perry Mason" that identified with the defense. Since these prosecutor-hero shows came on during the Reagan era we've seen a vast increase in people being convicted by juries despite the paucity of any real evidence, circumstantial or otherwise. I think they're a poisonous influence. We need courtroom dram that identifies with the accused and/or the defense attorney. These current programs are ultra-right propaganda. They should at the least be balanced by something that shows innocent but accused people being successfully defended.

I like 'Law & Order' and 'SVU'. Never really got in to 'Criminal Intent', though.

I liked them for years and then it bothered me when they kept repeating storylines from the news. I mean if you don't have writers-sell a newspaper called Law and Order revisits the crime. I do like CI because I like both leading men, why did Chris'Noth's first female partner leave?? Annabella Scirorra???

My husband like them. He says he does not care for the SVU, because it is depressing. I get bored watching them.
