Because some questions are answered simultaneously, and the answerer doesn't know someone else is giving the same or similar answer until his or hers is posted.

Sometimes I don't even look at the replies to see what has been said. I do this at work during my lunch hour so I don't have time to read all the responses. I just reply to the questions that I want to answer.
