They are morons, most of them just read what they are given. My husband watches the weather channel constantly and it just repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats.....yeah, just like that.

Ehm..
You should try with Penny Stocks Trading (you can find more info here: http://pennystocks.toptips.org )
Penny stocks, also known as cent stocks in some countries, are common shares of small public companies that trade at low prices per share.
I've been subscribing to this PennyStock web site for about a year now and have loved the objective advice they give. He really does look for quality stocks and I've made some pretty nice profits on a lot of his suggestions. Being still fairly new to investing I have been dabbling a lot in penny stocks to try and grow my account. I may not have a big account, but it's a lot bigger than it was a year ago. On just one of Nathan's picks this year I managed to make my investment back ten-fold! Be careful! Penny stocks are notoriously risky but if you follow the right method the risk is almost 0. I suggest to invest only little money first and then reinvest the profits. This is the site I'm using: http://pennystocks.toptips.org
Have a nice day

The public demands these forecasts. We know they aren't much good. Anything beyond about 5 days is only an educated guess based on models. But people say they need to know what the weather is like this weekend, or what it's going to be in two weeks. And since we are providing a service to you, we have to bow to your demands.
Have you tried forecasting on a regular basis? It's hard. And unlike you indicated above, we do pretty well with next day forecasts. Look up the statistics.

The agricultural industries and those parts of the country have an interest in long term weather trends.
Long term precipitation prediction affects how civil engineers plan to use the water trapped in underground aquifers. Seasonal rainfall affects how these aquifers replenish over months and years.
Insurance companies need to know long term trends in order to do their business. Stock Market investors also need to know if rain is going to wash out a harvest or if a snowplow company is a good investment.
Global weather patterns affect every aspect of our lives. Your local meteorologist/newsreader may not be much of a scientist, but that does not devalue the study of meteorology in general.
It was the observation of global weather patterns on Mars that lead scientists to realize the dangers of nuclear winter which in turn was instrumental in halting the arms race with the USSR and ushering the end of the Cold War.
They may get predictions wrong some of the time, but who gets a 100% guarranty on anything in life?

Once you have created a position, like news forecasting or damage assessment or NSA (National Security Agency), there will always be people who are willing to fill it and will always be eager to outdo the person before them.
It is a natural evolution of these departments/positions to push the level of capability of their particular service.
In the case of forecasters, the art of forecasting will always progress faster than technology. The forecast is done, and then is seen how accurate it is.
Of course, weather is unpredictable just like you said with all the variables. And forecasters are rarely given credit with correct predictions (unless it saves lives) but are often criticized when they predict wrongly.

Forcasts are general, the north east, the south, the north west , and so on. If you are going to sail to say, west Africa you would need a long range forcast would you not? .
If you want an accurate forcast for your address you would have to pay for it.

Well, in all fairness, it is not always wrong, and not really there fault, they get there information from the satelites in space, so the pictures they send down is our weather forecast. It must be hard to be a weather presenter or a meteoroligist as you are in charge of what we are told, so if it is wrong, you may get bad marks for it.

They do so because they need to see themselves how the weather will be for their outdoor activities next week.
Actuall seriously there are weather computer models that predict the weather, using mathematical equations. The meterologists just repeat what the different models are predicting into words that us commom folks can understand!
