Also, how do they get a cell phone to vibrate?

I believe vibrate takes more energy. Why? Well in many cases, they use a small motor with an unbalanced weight for the vibration and it takes a lot of juice to turn that motor.

you should have a ring tone selection or volume selection in your menu on the phone... check both. take your time, examine all those options.. took me a while to find my vibrate.

vibrate may use more energy.. but i always keep my battery spiked so it'll last longer.. i try to drain it often then give it moments of rest... now days batteries don't last as long and letting them save up for long periods of time can actually make a battery's life shorten.

i found my vibrate in the ringtone volume section... and well also found it when i turned the ringer volume down on the side of my phone where the volume buttons are.

but not all phone exactly have that function in the same place...

consult your users manual if you still have it IF not... there is a place that MAY help you...

go here:

and do a keyword search on your phone brand and model there may be a manual in PDF or HTML that you can download and keep for future reference.

I might be wrong, but I don't think the profile you have it on makes much of a difference in batter life. I think it has mostly to do with how often you use your phone, like how long you talk on the phone, how many texts you send, if you play games or use other applications, etc. To save battery, try turning the backlight feature to turn off or dim after 5 seconds of no activity. Anytime you phone's backlight is lit for no reason, you're wasting your battery!

the ring tone uses more, its hard to believe but it does, the viberator is minature motor that requires mili volts, while a ring tone has to be processed and then played through a speaker!

the minature motor has a half circle attached to the spinning end. obviosuly the semi circle vibrates when its spun becoz its not in balance.
