Ignition problems on '99 Cavalier.?
I'm having ignition problems on my '99 Cavalier. When I want to turn my engine over, it does a long crank and then it'll start up. I checked my battery and alternator and they both checked out fine on my voltmeter. My plugs and wires were replaced not long ago, and it couldn't come from there. Is it my ignition coil that's gone bad?

When you go to start the car and suspect it will do your complaint, instead of trying to start it attempt to check a few things out. Test all of the spark outputs one by one at the spark plug end. It should be strong and consistent as long as your jump to ground remains the same. If you have the strong and consistent spark outputs at all of the plug wires, the coils, wires, and module are all good. What you can't check is what I suspect is wrong, that is a fuel delivery problem. I would get the fuel filter replaced or checked. If that is plugged, that will be the problem. If it isn't plugged, you more than likely have a faulty fuel pump. To be sure you would have to install a fuel pressure gauge in line to see what the pressure is. It needs to be around 50 psi to be considered good. Good luck.
