2 points.

1) If your roommate is pi**ed, you probably should have asked first

2) Leave it like you found it, so if you are replacing the eggs and the milk, and throwing in a loaf of bread, then that is certainly fair, and more than some others would do.

if you are replacing it because they found out, then it's proper, if you are replacing it because you know it's the right thing to do, then pat yourself on the back.

I'm assuming from your question that your roommate is still mad at you, and you think replacing the food should be enough to appease them?

The fact that you are replacing the food is a really nice thing to do. But the problem is that you took the food without asking. You should apologize *and* replace the food. And not do it again.

Imagine if I took $50 from your wallet, spent it, and then gave you $60 back later. You would have every right to be mad at me for taking the money. I was stealing.

It's not about the eggs and milk; it's about respecting people's ownership.

I think that it is a nice gesture but did she ask for repayment of the food you took? If you are roomates then it should be common ( the food I mean) talk to your roomate and see how to make it all work out to your liking

Well you've owned up to it so it's only fair that you replace the said items but next time ask first, if it was the other way around you would expect that of her.Right.

You should have probably asked first but if you are going to replace the food then I don;t see a problem...

Since you're going to replace it I think that's fair, but next time you should ask first and let her know you'll replace it.

Listen. Sharing is the best thing. have you told your room mate about this act. If you tell her its ok but if you did not, Then, I'll call this stealing myself. Please tell the room mate and then if reaction comes then ok. Buying more and gifting might hurt the feelings.
