Are we citizens in the US and UK giving up more and more civil liberties and rights to our govt, each day?
it certainly seems so. Whats more with the Brazilian boy killed on the tubes, and the tube attack itself. things all look too well planned for terrorists.
The UK has more CCTV cams than anywhere on earth, with 4.3million of them in london alone.
ID.cards being suggested, with a complete and intimate history of your life and actions...
am i going mad? or are we really gettting locked down into a police state where we are monitored and cataloged?

i have nothing to fear from the law as i abide by it - only i do not wish for some faceless govt official know my every single move! why the hell do they have the right to perform their sick voyeurism.
And further more, are you not aware that in the UK and US there are many places where one can be arrested for protesting?

Just take a look at the Patriot Act.
After 9/11 many of civil liberties have been taken away, and many more will be taken away if ever another attack occurs.

The answer sadly is yes. The real question and what scares me most is why. How could such an existence be profitable. All that security costs money and the benefit is negligible in the long term. Could it really be that someone is aware of a coming catastophe and all of this is a prelude to ensure that the rich and powerful remain so and if that somewhat implausible scenario is correct then what catastrophe do they fear, the end of oil, plague, famine, the return of christ or the appearence of ET? What makes the powerful so afraid, because certainly it is not the masses, they are too uneducated to fear.

Hello, If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear. Collateral damage is regrettable don't forget his Visa had run out. Maybe you can tell us how you would catch the bombers etc, These so called civil rights groups run along side the do-gooder's. Terrorist down to the common thief when caught the do-gooder's scream about their civil rights when caught on CCTV the bastards are nailed.Today as the world is this is just a small price to pay .Could be that one day the CCTV will find you innocent of a crime that you have been accused of, If you are a do-gooder or a civil right pests go to Middle East where you are needed most.

we are being monitored and cataloged. I don't know why the powers that be are doing this to us but it cant be for the good. I don't know what is up. I live in America and everything on the news and in the papers is nothing but lies. They control our food sources and what we eat and they genetically modify our foods to make us ill. They spray us with chem trails all day and night like we are insects. The only thing that will fix it is probably an all out war against whoever 'they' are. Why they are doing this has got to be a bad thing or they would just come clean on tv and tell the human race the real reasons why they are doing all this **** to us. You should continue to research more. It isn't just the id's and the cameras it is the food, the air, the pharmaceutical industry, it is everything you see on tv, hear on the radio, read in the papers. Someone out there is trying to do us in. We are earthlings and should be allowed to live on our own friggin' planet. It is not about crime. They are tagging and hurding and monitoring us like live stock. maybe we are just alien food.

How do you mean "police state"It has nothing to do with your argument.
If it wasn't for the terrorist activity and theft and violence in this country there would be no need for all the cctv camera's and recent polls suggest that a majority of people welcome the feeling of security they give them.
The i.d card policy is another thing that has been created by the amount of terrorism and theft and violence in this country and i personally can't see the problem with it,the only people who are afraid of it are the people who have something to hide, who then hide behind the blanket of "police state".If you don't like the idea of i.d cards then don't take up residency in most European country's as they already have them.
The people (including yourself) who think that these moves are designed to take away your civil liberty's should go and live for a spell in Beirut or Brazil or any number of countries around the world where civil liberties don't exist.
By the way,I reckon that bonami28803 (see his answer above) has got a real bad case of paranoia (They're all out to get me)!!!!

You must be going mad if you really think there are 4.3 million cctv cameras in London! The problem is that the more freedom you have, the more it is taken advantage of, which is why this country and many others are ruled by criminals. They are the real menace. Drug dealing, gun crime, robbery all the result of no real deterant in law. Make the criminals lose the civil liberty, along with their human rights. The victims of crime have no human rights. Let's get it straight.

So what do you want to do... Have you been stopped from doing anything? I don't think so. So there are CCTV >>What does it matter if you are not misbehaving. Only people doing wrong need to be worried.. If there were no criminals or terrorists none of this would be necessary.. You could go out and leave your house door open and nobody would enter.. The world is not that nice now unfortunately.. You have not lost one civil liberty . Only the right to misbehave against society in general ..

A serious and global problem to be sure. I live in the US and people are convinced that they are in mortal danger. Little realizing that in a free society one has to be responsible for ones safety.
Police action RARELY stops a crime BEFORE it happens. What it DOES do is breed a criminal that will do anything to avoid detection. Including murdering law enforcement agents looking for them. Numbers of slain law enforcement officers SPIKES in states with the death penalty.
I won't even begin to tell you about our "Homeland security".
Peace.

When my kids were born 14 and 18 years ago, I argued very hard with my wife not to get them social security numbers. I hate the idea of being a government number. But these days, you can't even enroll them in school without it...unless you're an illegal alien, then you don't need any identification. I've been thinking recently about denouncing my citizenship and living in the U.S. as an illegal. I could go anywhere, open bank accounts that don't report to the government and get instate tuition from any number of public colleges regardless of whether or not I've ever lived there. It'd save me BIG bucks.
So, if you're concerned about being 'oppressed' as an American, become 'illegal', then you're totally free with no one looking over your shoulder. You want civil rights and freedom? Become illegal. Otherwise, I can't help ya.

I think so. And a police state in the worse sense. Not one where criminals are dealt with harshly and anti social scum and put in their place but one where the general populace is being forced to obey laws that does no good for them but only brings the country down(HRA etc) Whats more the nation is totally disarmed with most types of firearm banned or hard to get legally(something which gang members don't do) we would have no chance to have a revolution if we had to.

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."
Benjamin Franklin
I don't buy into the whole "nothing to hide, nothing to fear"
its not the point. We all have a right to privacy and civil rights. Its one more step to having bugs in all our homes and public toilets, or having tracking collars...
George Orwell!! looks like your right.
