First, assuming that this stupid plant and betta in a vase thing were legitimate, which it is not, bettas are not omnivorous, which means they don't eat plants. They're carnivorous, which means they need to eat protein-based foods. Next, bettas don't belong in vases, even if it didn't have a plant on top of it. Next, non-aquatic plants do not belong in aquatic, fish based systems because they rot and create toxic water conditions. Also, because they block oxygen to the water. Bettas breathe through a system called a "labyrinth" which is on the top of their head and which means that they need to access the top of the water so they can breath through their labyrinth. When there is a plant on top of the water, they cannot do this. Take out the plant, put the betta in a larger container, at least 1 gallon and preferably 2.5 with a filter and a heater and feed it two times every day and what they can eat in five minutes. Good luck!

The peace lily does nothing for the fish except take up much needed space. I would remove the fish from the vase and place it in a 2.5 gallon tank that is filtered and heated. Betta's are tropical fish and need to be housed that way. You wouldn't put a fish that came from the ocean into a freshwater stream would you?? I feed my Betta's twice a day. I also use Betta flakes and pellets. I feed them brine shrimp and blood worms as a treat about 3 times a week. Keep a close eye on your Betta and be sure he doesn't get constipated. I like Evelyn, fast mine once a week to ensure he doesn't have problems with constipation and swim bladder disorder.

A peace lily in a betta tank is bad. It doesn't mean that a betta can live there should live there. I would take out the peace lily and get him a bigger bowl.

As for your betta feeding. You should really try to feed them everyday at least once.

Who told you about feeding a betta fish twice a week because there is a peace lily in the tank.

As Venice Girl said, these plants are not food for bettas and are actually detrimental to them. I would take her advice and get a bigger bowl/tank with a large surface area and feed once or twice a day.
I usually recommend the Betta Bits instead of flakes. Give two or three pieces at a time and remember, their stomach is only about the size of their eyeball.

The myth about bettas eating plant roots????

you know how outdatet that is already???

They don't eat the roots of a plant, they eat regular fish food just like all the other fish

A betta is suppose to be in at least a 2.5 gallon tank with heater and filter, and a live plant on which he can rest on

you're suppose to feed him twice a day 3-4 pellets each time, and give him frozen bloodworms or similar at least 2-3 times a week to change up his diet

Also you should fast him one day out of the week to prevent constipation

Hope that helps
good luck

I have a Betta fish without a lily and I feed it once a week and it is happy and healthy. I had one with the lily and fed it maybe every other week and it was fine. I had a friend who had one with the lily and never fed it and it lived almost 2 years.
