The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950)
Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia (1951)
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952)
The Silver Chair (1953)
The Horse and His Boy (1954)
The Magician’s Nephew (1955)
The Last Battle (1956)
They're quite timeless books, with great plots. Magic, adventure, British people...read them in order. Then see the movies. The first movie actually did have a great book-to-movie translation.

If you like fantasy series, you will obviously want to consider Lord of the Rings.
Of course, I recommend you read a classic book that you have not yet read. They are some of the best books made throughout all of human history. Of course, it could be anything from a Greek plays to 1984, Catcher in the Rye, or Of Mice and Men. All of those last three books are deep, interesting, and well-known.

A Time for Killing by John Grisham - Powerful book.
The Stand by Stephen King - Armaggedon in modern times.
Rose Madder by Stephen King - Abused wife triumphs.
The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks - Modern 1984
The Hobbitt and the Lord of the Rings JRR Tolkien - Great Tale.
Narnia - CS Lewis Another Great Tale along biblical lines.
"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It was perhaps the best book I've read in quite some time albeit a dismal tale but powerful. The ending is terrific.

The Truth about Forever-Sarah Dessen
If you liked Twilight and those books you will enjoy anything that Sarah Dessen writes. They don't ahve to deal with vampire and such things but her books are just soooo good.
The Mediator Series-Meg Cabot
These books are about a girl who can see spirits and tries to give them closure but she ends up falling in love with one. Really Good.
