I have everybody bring something, and cook up my specialty (sausage burgers and homemade fries), and supply condiments (salad dressing, ketchup, etc).

have everyone bring something. It will offer more variety which means there should be something that everybody likes. Then you do not have to cook for everyone or pay for a caterer. My family does this for get togethers and it creates a laid back atmosphere where no one really needs to worry about found but instead can hang out and talk to everyone.

Most time have everyone bring something. Home cooking is the best to share and is the cheapest. But everyone, including myself, would definitely participate in cooking something. Catering is just foolish in my opinion, unless you have money to burn.

Whoever is hosting cooks the main course- like grilled chicken, and a couple of sides, like baked beans, etc. Then everyone else brings a side or a dessert.

I generally get the cooking detail, but they usually ask if they can bring something so it works out pretty good.

We had one this summer. It lasted 7 days. Our son came up from Virginia. My husband's family came from North Dakota (six adults/five boys ages 21 months to 10). They all stayed with us. On Saturday night our daughter, her husband and two youngest girls stayed, too. YES, it was hectic but it was grand. No one fell in the lake. Nothing got broken. No one got injured or sick. We grilled out-a lot!! They insisted on paying for a lot of the groceries, brought their own towels and did ALL the cleaning up. Best time I ever had!
