So many New Yorkers live down here that they call it the 6th
borough. Miami is a lot like NY, commuting is tough,
the place is crowded, and a large part of the population speaks spanish.... the pay scale is much lower than NY but there is no state or city income tax, rent in downtown Miami rivals Manhatten, but if you have a car, you can commute in from safe and cheaper areas. There is no subway, only buses and a limited metrorail system. Schools are comparable to NY but begins in mid-August & ends in May.
l also moved down from NY, if your trying to escape the rat race of New York my advice is to avoid Miami, which is just another big city, and instead consider going a bit farther out to the suburbs or the Ft Lauderdale area. It will be much calmer, better schools, a nicer life style, and most of the people are from up north. The job market will be the same but it will be a lot less like living in Brooklyn. Hope this helps, good luck.

I moved down from Queens 5 years ago and this is what I can tell you...the rents are cheaper, but so are the salaries. My husband was making twice as much in NY. We never needed cable in NY because we had great reception. We also didn't need a landscaper to cut the grass every 2 weeks. The schools are about the same as NYC...in fact when I left Rudy Crew was the superintendant, and now he's holding the same position down here.
Foodwise...dairy is cheap but meat is way more expensive down here. The drivers are WAY more courteous in NY...they suck here. it's also nice that the kids aren't trapped indoors all winter.

I moved from NYC to Palm Beach & LOVE it. All my NY friends fight over who gets my guest space in the winter! It is less expensive than NY and there are some good schools.

well, the traffic is unreal, there are alot of homeless people and the gays are everywhere. and alot of garbage around-no one picks up. the gay thing-I'm straight and have always respected people's sexual orientation. But gay men have really turned it up a notch. they make straight women feel almost unwelcome. it's a bizarre turn of events.
