Nope, I've grown past that. I only give thumbs down if I really, really dislike an answer. Usually I only use the thumbs up though. There's already too much bad feeling in the world, and on here, I don't want to spread any more.

Edit:
I think you're right. A lot of people do just blast through giving thumbs down and never post answers.

Hmm, I don't recall there being any TOS rules about thumbs, like there is with reporting, which should only be done for TOS violations. So people are free to "thumb" as they please.

Having said that, personally, I "thumb down" primarily TOS violations. There is no one here so malicious - well, OK, rarely anyone here so malicious that isn't petroleum-based - that all their answers deserve a thumbs down.

To be honest, I don't rank a lot of responses either way. But if I see a particularly good or funny one, I will "thumb it up." This is especially true on a thoughtful question and answer.

No. Only if I disagree with that specific answer, not the identity; that's the entire purpose for the "thumb" ratings- not a popularity contest. A thumbs-down is a harmless response to a rude, bigoted, or erroneous answer; it only counts against a person if they get a "best answer", and it's not like you can turn in your points for money anyway.

I only thumb down if I know that the answer comes from puposeful ignorance or hate. I never thumbs down someone giving the best answer that they can.

I thumbs down people if they don't place respectful opinions or use "facts" that aren't facts at all.

But in the end, it doesn't affect* me if I get a thumbs down or not. It's just the internet. I try not to take what people do too seriously or else you'd be driven insane.

I only give a thumbs down to rude, ignorant, bigoted, and distasteful answers. Whether I like the person or not....I

I don't. I thumbs down if I STRONGLY disagree. If you posted something, and I liked it and agree with it, I would thumbs up it. But several people here do not do the same thing.

I don't thumb down anyone. If I do, it is simply because I am reporting a pornographic avatar or spam. I do feel however that many people on both sides in the LGBT section thumbs down based on name not quality of answer. You get horrific thumbs down I have noticed simply because people dislike what you say. It is a shame. I will even get thumbs down for agreeing with you.

I tend to give a thu mbs up to answers I agree with, find humorous, or just really enjoy reading.
I occasionally give thu mbs down, but only to answers that I find to be rude, ha te ful, or completely wrong and erroneous. I guess those that fall into the rude and ha te ful category should be reported for being abusi ve.

I thumbs down, when an answer is dumb, wrong, or ignorant. I know how bad it feels to get a thumbs down, so I tend to not give them as often as thumbs up.
