My current fish:
4 Cherry Barb
4 Corydoras Catfish

10 Gallon Tank

If I add a male and female betta with my current fish, would they still breed?

Would my bettas bully my other fish?

Would my male kill my female if she isn't ready?

What should I watch out for when breeding bettas?

What do I need to do and what do I need in order for my bettas to breed?

First of all, a betta is just a community fish like all the other tropicals are

NEVER ever put female and male together in one tank, unless you want to breed them

your betta wouldn't do anything to your other fish, but you can only add either one male ore 3 females to the setup you already have

And yes, your male would kill your female

First of all you would need to condition them seperately for at least 2 weeks
you will need a 10 gallon breeding tank, just for the bettas itself, not a community tank for them

10 gallon, with heater, 6 inch of water, 1 male betta, and live plants
1 gallon bowl for your female, to put into the tank with the male just that they can see each other
lots fo live food for them that they can be conditioned properly

hope that helps
good luck

Speaking from experience, the betta wouldn't kill or bully the other fish, BUT the other fish sure would bully the male betta! Especially the barbs! I had barbs that literally tore my poor male betta to pieces. I don't know if it was because of them just being barbs or because the betta's long fins drove them crazy. But it was awful. Also, I believe that male and female bettas don't really get along any better than two males, the female being as bad as the male to fight. The only time they like to be together is right at the point the female is ready for mating.

Check out this website, it talks specifically about breeding bettas:

I don't know the dynamics of breeding bettas, you should probably go to a pet store that specializes in fish and ask.

I do know, however, that male bettas are extremely aggressive and will more than likely kill any smaller fish. He could also seriously injure slightly larger fish. They have breeder tanks and dividers that can be put in your tank to separate the bettas out. I wouldn't put them in with your other fish.

advise to do extra study till now any breeding purpose. you are able to desire to save the male betta in his very own tank, no longer truly helpful with different fish, truly no longer with yet another male and not with a woman except waiting for breeding. Introduce the female basically whilst her abdomen is particularly swollen and whilst develops stripes on her physique. The male could desire to have already geared up his bubble nest. make optimistic the two male & woman bettas are waiting till now putting the female in. After the spawning is executed (as much as a pair of few hours), get rid of the female and leave the male to guard the nest with the eggs. Hatching occurs approximately 40 8 hours after mating. get rid of the male. The fry are unfastened swimming after 3-4 days. Feed on fry nutrition first, then powdered flake & brine shrimp. Use mushy filtration & water transformations each few days. After approximately 2 months or whilst youthful adult males could nicely be pointed out, get rid of them to evade battling.

yeah i wouldn't add them all together...

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mate with other fish there
and i wouldn't put that many other fish with a male betta to begin with.

i think you should just get the bettas their own separate tanks or bowls and wait until they are ready to mate. (and don't put them together until they are ready!)
