COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- An elementary school in Colorado Springs, Colo., is banning the game of tag on its playground, after some children complained they had been chased or harassed against their will.

Assistant Principal Cindy Fesgen of the Discovery Canyon Campus school said running games will be allowed, as long as students don't chase each other.

I guess this takes out most sports or games as you usually chase after the person with the ball. No soccer, basketball, football, frisbee and so on.

What is the school doing to these kids? Now they can't run so of course they will get even fatter right? Aren't they trying to promote a healthier lifestyle? What running game is left? Track? I can't remember finding a track race all that appealing in grade school, unless you wanted to proove who was faster... but there is two problems with track... someone would win and the other kids feelings would be hurt and you are actually chasing after the faster kid...

Would you stand for this if your kid was in this school?

How do they think kids are going to fair when they have been coddled their whole life and then have to enter "the real world"?

Kids these days need a good hard kick in the pants. Period, Parents need to stop relying on the government to raise their kids and they need to stop thinking everyone is picking on THEIR children.

will people ever get over themselves - everyone is NOT after you.

Also, isnt it a proven fact that we learn important social skills at a young age - because we interact and such, if we have all these rules to stop that interaction, how will it affect the future of our society?

Because if the psychiatrist does not like you they may fail you or if the government had a question required to be asked tomake you fail you may as well not have the second amendment. Then for the assault rifle argument. Look at the way our government has been runing in the last 20 years. Look at how divided this country is. Look at our economy and the way our government is trying to fix it. We are nearing the edge of a civil war unless the government straitens out. You can't fight the government with handguns and single shot rifles and shotguns. Its what's about to happen and if it does the economy resets itself. Besides an assault rifle today is no different from my 22 semi-automatic. Looks identical to a hunting 22. That's because it is a hunting 22. Both the assault rifle and the conventional. The only difence is the stock. An assault rifle just looks scary. A flash hider is nothing more than a cone shaped pice on the end of the barrel. It does nothing at all. A bayonet mount is only there for a bayonet but howmany murders have there been using a bayonet. Now slow me to adress handguns. They are the most reasonable gun for home defence because you can draw it so fast and veep hidden in the hall. A shotgun can't be hidden within your home because it is simply to large. Now I would like to go back on assault rifles. Some people say we have no need for semi automatic wepons for hunting. But I disagree. I have a friend who can use anything but a semi automatic because he can't properly work his arm. Working a bolt or a hammer is near imposible for him. He is missing 3 fingers including the thumb and his are is severly immobilized. A semi automatic actualy removes some of the kick and so he can more easily use it. With all his problems if it weren't for semi-automatics he would be unable to hunt. If a man stoll a mobile home and killed 75 childeren with it you want to ban mobile homes. Because really so few people have them and most also have a house. It's the same with assault rifles by some of your logic. I'm just saying everything has civilan uses.

I don't know how I survived. Here's a list of the playground equipment that is no longer on the playground at my old elementary school:

Seesaws, a big merry-go-round that went really fast, monkey bars, big metal slides, A fort that you climbed a ladder to get into, a big metal ladder like structure, & a rolling barrel.

All now deemed unsafe. How do kids learn what not to do now? Some of my biggest lessons came from falling off something, and you can bet I learned it, because it HURT!

WILD! I have taught school for 25 years, and BUSH's "No Child Left Behind crap has caused them to take away recess from those above 3rd grade.

We (3rd grade) just got it back this year....30 minutes on the playground.
They are pre-testing these children to death. They have to have a Pre-Test for EVERYTHING and a post-test for EVERYTHING. It is ridiculous.
We cannot teach for testing. We have to practice for the CRCT; we have to do tons of paperwork.

It is ALL crazy. Kids cannot be kids any more.

I predict that this generation will have tons of ulcers. There will be back problems because of the heavy books in their book bags. Obesity will get worse because they can't go play.

I LOVE teaching. I want to TEACH....not TEST!

That is stupid...I loved playing freeze tag, red light green light, mother may I, hide and go seek, dodge ball, red rover, etc...any one of these games has the potential to either chase a child or hurt a feeling for not being called on...childhood is being sold out...nothing left but violent cartoons and video games...I weep for the children...

This is just the tip of the iceberg where this city is concerned. We are the home of Focus on the Family/James Dobson. We are home of New Life Church and Ted Haggard before he fell from grace. We were called the city of intolerance a while back. This city has right wing fundamentalism so far up its a$$. The school board is a very embarrassing joke as well as many of our schools. This is just one example the people of Colorado Springs put up with. But the winds of change have started to blow through. Hey you mouthycon keep your opinions about this state to yourself. Aside from a few problems this is a great state to live. Most of us live very well here.
Huh I'm not getting the thumbs down thing. Oh did I insult someone in my description of this town?

Some idiots in Massechusettes did the same thing. I guess kids are supposed to sit on benches with arms folded like little angels during recess. Good grief! What is this country coming to?

It's Colorado, what do you expect, it's not right to chase children in a feverish game of tag, but we can tell them that same sex is OK, in fact, they should experiment with it. Note to self: Stay out of Colorado.

I think the parents of these kids were the ones that were picked last for the team in grade school.

In my days as an elementary student, we played dodgeball. A lot of got hit but we liked it and it made us alert and quick. Is sad to see how children are being pampered, they're not going to be tough.
