have you checked the belt around the dryer tub? Maybe it is overheating or is stretched?

some more info. would be nice but here goes.If the dryer is still running and the cloths are coming out wet and hot then the vent hose is stopped up or kinked. If the dryer stops running altogether the overheat switch is shutting it down and the cause should be fixed or the switch might be bad,and needs replacing. If the dryer stops turning the belt might be broken or stretched. If it starts to work and then just stops heating up the element has a break in it and needs to be fixed or replaced. If it does not run at all check the breaker then the door switch.

This is a very common problem and has to do with lack of normal maintenance. There is a small thermal switch on the back of the dryer that shuts it off when the temperature gets too high in the out put port. This is where the big hose goes on the back to vent the air outside. You need to take that hose off and clean out that area about at least once every six months, depending on your usage pattern. You can just reach in there with your hand and scoop out most of the lint build up and then use a vacuum cleaner (with a hose) to clean out the rest of it. If you have a free air flow there, the switch won't stop the dryer, but as the lint builds up, the temperature goes way up and the switch kicks in, thus preventing a fire.

I'm not sure, but check all outlets for a build up of lint. Maybe the exhaust tube is full and an overheat switch is shutting the dryer down because it gets too hot. My brother had a rental house that burned because the dryer vent was plugged.
Good Luck!

Move the dryer out and remove all lint from behind the back cover, floor etc. Check that the dryer vent is not plugged with lint (you may need snake like roto rooter uses) If this is all okay, you may have a burned out heating element. Good luck.

There is a big difference in operation between gas and electric dryers, and some major differences between types of gas dryers. It would be very helpful if you could specify gas or electric dryer. Please go read this article.
