i have tested 2 GFI recepticals, and with both I am shown I have an open ground.

When I tried a standard receptical, i am shown the wiring is correct.

Any ideas?

Shown how, what are you using for a test instrument? Guessing you have a 3 wire system, the solid copper ground wire may or may not be connected to the out let box. This may give a false test as some GFI receptacles also monitor the screw connections to the wall box.

Check all the ground connections on the same circuit one may be loose . There has to be a fault some where, also with the regular outlet test the voltage between the hot and ground it should be 120 volts if the ground is loose you may get low voltage, do this with a regular voltage tester.

Whoever installed the GFI's botched them, but got the standard ones installed correctly?

The LOAD and LINE are reversed. Swap them and it will be ok.
