I use fabric softener sheets with febreeze and I put them under the couch cushions, in the trash cans, laundry baskets, etc. It leaves a fresh smelling scent throughout the house.

Over time you will not notice "scents" in your home good/bad. Your nose gets use to them.. So, other people may smell the fabreze, poppourri ect.... Also, people with allergies can't handle "scents".. So, be careful when entertaining.. I like to clean the bathroom with bleach.. I know it's clean and disenfected... The bleach smell goes away.. You can even use scented bleach.... I also use plain baking soda on my carpets.. *Some people are allergic to the perfume variety.. Plus that stuff is expensive when I can get a 12lb bag for under $5 at the wholesale club... I leave it on overnight and vacuum in the morning.. I do that once a week and sometimes I sprinkle the furniture as well.. Odors lurk on furniture.. If you can wash your couch cushion covers every few months and dry just until slightly damp and put back on couch.. If the cushion covers don't come off, vacuum really well once a week.. I find my shop vac to be very, very helpful...

Provided you have identified the source of the odor, and cleaned it, and if the smells don't go away, then it really depends on what the "smell or odor" is. If it is a moldy or mildew type smell, then a bowl of vinegar in a spot that is not noticeable or accesible by small children or pets could solve your problem. Otherwise, the frabic softner sheets or febreeze may be worthwhile. If the smell is "fishy", then using lemon juice to clean just might work. Could be that a simple overhaul of "bleach-cleaning" will do the trick (with the room(s) being well ventilated)... A little more information will help us to help you with the solution that you are looking for.

I agree with Savannah re. the fabric sheets. I place them in the air vents. They also help in keeping small items from falling through and are easy clean up. Just remove and put another one in. I hold them in place with masking or duct tape. LOL how original is that? Used are also good as they are not as strong scented for us people with perfume allergies.

keep your windows open and give the house a good cleaning once a week. i would not use fabreeze or any of that stuff. your spraying chemicals in the air and it only lasts a little while.
