I would live in Walnut Creek ... I cannot stand SF.
My friend lives there for school and he hates it. He can't wait until he can move back to a 'civilized' (as he says) place.
Sure, the commute will suck ... but just pop in your ipod and take a nap. You don't need the experience of living in SF when you work there. Plus, I see a ton more good for WC than I do SF. It's like Hawaii - nice place to visit, wouldn't wanna live there.

Walnut Creek can be reached by BART. This will take you less than an hour! If you will travel by car, then it will probably more than 40 minutes depending on the traffic. Try also looking for houses in Daly City. It would be the nearest place to San Francisco! Rental there is a bit lower and parking better than in San Francisco. Those from San Francisco would prefer shopping over these areas especially this coming Christmas season than shopping in downtown San Francisco where it is hard to park & where 30 minutes would parking would cost you around $ 2.00. Or you can probably go the other way of the Golden Gate Bridge to Sonoma! Rental there is much lower! It is where the wine counties are.

Im 25 and I live in Walnut Creek. I love it. San Fran is a great place to go but if you're working there you'll still experience the city. Plus if you live in Walnut Creek and you have a car people go into the City all the time to go out. Without commute traffic it's only a 30 minute drive! Not bad at all. Save some money and live in WC for awhile and then if you have have regret atleast you'll have met people at work and it will be easier to move to San Fran then. I'd suggest only signing a 6 month lease if you can so you have the option to go if you want.
Good Luck~

I would say weather was better in the city. It's always cool, just a little brisk. The air is cleaner and fresher, it comes right off the ocean. Walnut Creek tends to be kind of hot in the Summer.
But for almost everything else you'd be better off in Walnut Creek. It's an 'upscale' community, very pretty and comfortable. Centrally located in San Ramon Valley, convenient to much of the Bay Area. Easier to park, and to drive. Good shops/restaurants/bars/etc. You can take BART into the city, right to where you work. $8.25 sounds like a lot but in the whole scheme of things it isn't that bad because you'll save much more on rent
Living in San Francisco is expensive, but it's an adventure! You don't really need a car because the public transportation is so good. There are wonderful things to discover, many neighborhoods to explore. I lived in SF for two years when I was younger and I enjoyed every minute of it (and it was cheaper then).
But if you live in Walnut Creek you sort of have the best of both worlds. You'll be in the city every day in case you want to hang around after work and go shopping or out for dinner or something, but you go home to a quiet neighborhood in the burbs.

When a person thinks of San Francisco thinks at a giant International Orange-coloured connection, a park spanning significantly more than 1,000 miles or a town where modern artwork and tradition and if you're enthusiastic about that town then here is the place to start hotelbye . One of many points for what you should visit San Francisco is PIER 39. From amazing opinions and a sea of sea lions to chowder bread dishes and California wines, your stop by at San Francisco starts at PIER 39. That place is the absolute most visited location in San Francisco. It includes two degrees of food, leisure, shopping and attractions, all surrounded by irresistible opinions of the city and the bay. Situated along the historical San Francisco waterfront, PIER 39's spot supplies the photograph ideal backdrop for postcard views of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges, Alcatraz, Angel Island and the famous town skyline.

you hit all the nails right on the head with both. And I would agree with your pros and cons. I would pick walnut creek, if I had my choice. I am from there and miss it dearly. I am not much of a "city person" and I now live up in the Napa Valley I just love to drive my car and out and about. However, I just recently had a co-worker move from Sonoma to San Francisco, because he wanted more of that city feel that you describe.

Hi there,
you can find a free download of Big City Adventure San Francisco here: http://j.mp/1qXDpBr
Finally the full version is avaiable!
While the characters are not the most remarkable part of the game, the graphics and the interface are some of the features that the players usually like of this game.
It's a really nice game.

walnut creek
yes hot in summer,, but beat the cold wetter winter of SF
SF buses are not so safe,as people have been beaten or robbed and the driver is too scared to help..
what kind of experience are you seeking in SF, that you will miss??? If I seek adventure in SF, I go there, or stay there after work and hangout..
There are good bars in every town,if you know where to look..
rent is bad everywhere too, better to take advantages to same on rent, even with SF rent control, it still goes up?
What grocery shopping-yes you need a car to do that in SF, or buy what you can carry on the buses...When it is raining, you will regret, not having a car..
Commute on Bart is not do bad,do crossword puzzles, read a book,relax...
goodluck...

Well, I guess there are so many pro and cons that you have listed down on your question description. I would like to advice you to live in the city. Living in the city seems to be a good option for you since you sound like you are looking forward to live your city life which is good because San Fran really provides the experience that many people enjoy. Other than the rent, I think it is also good to think that you will be doing more walking in the city and hence you get to make yourself healthier by walking rather than driving around the community.(Plus, gas is not that cheap too!!)
