Will Blizzard ever create a free-to-play server for World of Warcraft??

Blizzard is ridiculously money hungry, so I doubt it. Personally, I think they should and then just limit some of the content. This would be in their best interest as it is such an addicting game. Players are going to want all the content once they get started and ultimately will upgrade to a paying account. It makes good business sense, but I really doubt they'll do it.

Just look at how quickly they are already developing another expansion. Honestly, I believe that half of that will be the unfinished content from the latest expansion.

No

The main reason not to is that it is too expensive. Servers require maintainence. Someone must pay for the network connection, a staff to keep the server operational, the considerable power requirements and such

The need to charge money to keep up with the costs

Now, others have set up their own private servers, usually they are free and they allow their users more control (like running with cheat codes, people can raise their health or powers higher than they could natually). But the population of these private servers is a lot smaller and their content is usually lagging behind the official servers

Probably not, sadly. The Reason- The government resently stated that they may start to take profits from MMO's because the fake in-game money has real world value since people buy and sell it on eBay. Since the government found out about it, they believe it should be taxed. They think that anything makes money should be taxed for it. And i believe they said this directly towards WOW. WOW may never be free =(. But i think there's a chance that blizzard wins this one because Blizzard itself isn't making money off the kids who buy/sell in-game money, the kids are. Hope this helps... just keep your eyes peeled.

Nope, never, the reason being is they want to make more money. I think they should put a free play server on though with less options then regular. Like maybe, not as many classes and you can only go up to lvl 60 as apposed to 80 in the newest expansion.

Nope.

Blizzard makes 95% of the money that comes out of WoW from montly subscriptions. That is how Blizzard makes its proffit and pays for all the servers of WoW they run.

I've been playing the game for years and trust me when i say that their greedy when it comes to money. Maybe they'll make a few events or something going on in the next life time involving free usage of the game. But any time soon? i think not.
