The employer is no longer in business and was a corporation that filed bankruptcy. I was told since they were a corporation and had filed for bankruptcy that the $10,000.00 I was entitled to is pretty much gone. Is that true?

Yes, it is - especially if you didn't put in a claim during their bankrupcy.

Basically there is nobody to collect from. And it might be too long anyway even if they were still around.

Yes pretty much, if you can get a hold of the bankruptcy administrator and if there is any money left then you might get something.

If they owe you money you are entitled to a share of the

Yup pretty much gone that is a good way to put it. But you can put your name on the list of creditors that are waiting for payment and you should get something if it hasn't been distributed yet.
