Of those two, I'd recommend the 50 foot ethernet cable because with a wifi range extender you can still run into interference and signal quality problems. Sometimes you may need to reset your wireless router or range extender because the network just seems to disappear. No such issues with a wired network.

Another option (if you're just looking to get a network connection to another room in the same house) is to grab a pair of powerline ethernet adapters. They plug into AC power outlets in each room and form a connection, without having 50 feet of cable running along the floor/walls. You just use regular patch cables at both ends, and there aren't any wireless signal quality issues to deal with.

A wifi extender has the advantage of free movement if you want to move around with a laptop, but if you work in one place like a desk- the other options are more reliable.

A computer store (especially small ones in strip malls) should carry cables. Avoid the big retail chains for cabling unless you don't mind paying twice as much.

In theory ethernet cables can still function optimally at around 60-70 feet, max is 100 feet. It's cheap but hard to lay down.

Wireless is more costly but you have more freedom to move about if you need to use the network. It's more prone to interference though.

I would preferably choose wireless since I like to take my laptop at different places of the house.

Both will work, or just go wire less and install a router. I believe a router is what you mean by wire less extender. Buy one with very good antenna and distance rating.
