We work our butts off all our lives thinking it's the "right" thing to do. What is it all for in the long run? Like they say, "You can't take it with you", and at the rate I'm going there won't be anything left to "take".

We all seem to have to have at least the feeling that our lives have a purpose because without purpose there is no meaning and without meaning our lives have no worth.

Most of us try to create the feeling of self worth through seeking the praise of others. People will say their purpose is to "make a difference in the world" or to "leave the world a better place", but it all amounts to seeking imagined praise. While our self worth comes from doing something for others, we long to have our worth based on who we are and not what we do.

If we will admit that our Creator might exist, then it must be that He put our great need for purpose in our human nature in order to point us to seek Him. God wants us to have our worth through a relationship with Him, much as a child's worth is through a relationship with the parents. This is what we long for and we will never rest until we rest in Him.
