First playo f the game Giambi makes a diving play.

A few games ago he did the same thing...

The big hole in Giambi's game defensively is is range and his ability to turn double plays/make throws. He is one of the best firstbasemen when it comes to scooping low throws out of the dirt. He had to work on that more than anything in Oakland because of all the room behind 1st base on bad throws. So I would say slightly underrated defensively but still 3rd on the defensive depth chart for the Yankees.

I would like to note that he is one of my favorite players for the fact that he cooperated with officials and investigators. Let's hope thats a sign for other players to start manning up to it.

He is still a bad feilder, he has never been a great fielder. Remember when they brought in Olerud a few years back, that was purely for defense, Giambi struggles with fielding throws from the other fielders...a few diving plays will not change that.

Pure luck if you ask me. Giambi is no golden glover. It's like the Toby Keith song, "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was." Giambi is on his last legs as a ball player, and I'm not even a Giambi critic. I like him because he's brash and doesn't take crap off of anybody, but I would never call him an underrated fielder.

Unfortunately people often forget that he has been a pretty decent defensive ballplayer during his career. Most focus on home runs and lately the steroid issue. Giambi can't hurt you in the field.

Its hard to be underated when you're one of the highest paid players at your position and you aren't a gold glover at your position.

Baseball is more than hitting a white ball over a padded wall. Thats why St. Louis, White Sox, Marlins, etc. are able to win World Series.

The home run, about 90 times out a 100, is a mistake on the pitcher and hitters part. Its not a whole lot more than a long fly ball.

No... he's a below average fielding 1st baseman.

I do like his command of the strike zone and his power and I do respect him as the only player to man up and admit to steriod use.

No. He's trying to pull a Gary Sheffield and do everything in his power not to get traded in the off season.

It didn't work for Gary and I don't think it will work for Jason either.

Yea hes underrated because hes older, and no offense because he abused the substance policy. Not being mean i got nothing against yankee fans.

I'm not convinced he's a top notch fielder yet.

No, just slow.

Fielders with speed don't need to dive for every catch.
