Why does everyone make fun of Americans?

Question

as an Englishman who is currently in the USA on business i feel i must ask this.
Most Americans i have met are not too bad and i think they deserve to be cut some slack.
Why oh why do people continue to make fun of them?
Its an utter disgrace

Because they are gulliable, react very quickly when made fun of, which makes it all the merrier!

Because they invade countries pretending they "posess" weapons of mass destruction while being the country that has the most WMD and just about the only country who actually used them.

Because after it's been proven that their president is the biggest liar they ever had as president they still vote for him!

Because they are exploiting the wealth of this planet and are the biggest wasters ever! I think you could save the planet from starvation just by using the food you people trash everyday!

Because when more than 80% of this planet's people are expressing they don't want a war, the US just goes on with it.

Because they never respect any UN decisions unless it is their own proposition. Because they are stubborn and think their country is the center if the Universe, even adopting the name of a whole continent to call their country... (America does not equate USA and there are a lot of fine Americans living south of Tijuana or in Canada...)

There are many, many, many other reasons but essentially it is true that the main reason is you are the most powerfull nation. Not jealousy but astonishment at what your country does with that power when it could actually use it for the good of the planet, be like a "big brother" and set a nice exemple. But nope the only way the US tries to promote it's ideals is by beating up other nations, using force, like the big fat bully at school.

And for me anyways it has nothing to do with jealousy. I lived in the US for 4 years, going to middle school over there and I just know I'm happy in good ol' Europe and would never want to move to the US.

Is everyone missing the point! Yank baiting, Brit baiting anyone baiting is FUN as long as it is kept that way and not taken too far. Damn you never had a banterous episode with your friends? It's all part of the thing we call life. We get bashed by our American cousins and vice versa, big deal. Like I say as long as it is FUN and no one gets hurt whats wrong with it? Shows a bit of character too? So in that spirit Hello all my American chums, when you gonna get a president that doesn't look like a clockwork action figure let alone talk like one, hmm? Thank you sir for realizing we are 'not too bad', I really appreciate that. Now we don't mind anyone making fun of us though because we are the richest most powerful nation in the world so we do expect a little jealousy. We even make fun of others sometime, all in good humor and spirits for example how the English PM is obligated to be our Presidents lapdog etc, so you see we don't take any offense at a few harmless jokes on us. We actually enjoy the little people having their laugh at us. It makes them more easily controlled. Have a fine day!

Maybe because they are an easy target. People make fun of each other all the time, Irish against English, vice versa, Americans make fun of the Canadians as much as they have fun poked at them, going on experience with friends from Canada.

Because Americans have been portrayed as fat (e.g. film Super Size Me) as well as rednecks. Other reasons possibly include George Bush and his desicions as president. People who do make fun of Americans are just ignorant and most likely have never actually met an American. I agree, it is an utter disgrace.

Everyone makes fun of and stereotypes everyone, thats just how it is. But yeh, it is wrong.
Have you ever seen American shows like The Simpsons, and Family Guy? They take the mickey out of the English and Irish as much as the English and Irish take the mickey out of Americans.

And besides, most people dont make fun of Americans, just the media, and anyone stupid enough to believe what the media tells them. Come on, most people know better than that.

Because of the opportunity we have in America. Compared to other countries we have a lot of advantages that they dont. The culture is wide open not set in a specific way. And the country has money to spend on whatever it wants. Some countries are jealous but when others make fun of us it sometimes is justified.

Human nature, I guess. Everybody makes fun of somebody. You can analyze it out all you want and come up with excuses, justifications, or any other "reasons" but really it boils down to the simple fact that people make fun of people.

Because we're the most powerful and wealthiest country but at the same time the most racist, most ignorant, fattest, most overpriviliaged, most rude, most "into ourselves", and probably one of the dumbest developed countries on Earth. We start "global struggles" with other countries for their resources. Theres lots of reasons why every other country hates us but we're too ignorant to connect the dots.
