I have a older laptop with a wireless card slot. If I put a wireless n speed card in, will my computer accept that speed or is the computer to outdated? Secondly, does the the wireless card and the wireless router have to be the same brand? If they work off of 802.11n, shouldn't it not matter if I use two different brand products?

No they don't but it is advisable because you need to consider some compatibility issues with different manufacturers. Ideally all networking devices should work with each other because it follows certain standards. The primary thing that you need to be critical in setting up your wireless connection is your wep key.

No, as long as the wirelss card is 802.11n (make sure it is N not B or G) it will work. Two different products are more likeley to have complications more than two of the same products (common logic). You can also verify that your ewuipment will work the the sales person online, in the store or on the phone.

Hope this helped =)

No, just make sure that the card supports the speed rating of the router (n, g,b etc.).

not as long as the devices support the 802.11 a / b/ g standard that the router uses; this is why there are standards.
