Additionally, what part of the toll revenue goes towards paying for maintenance/upkeep of the tollbooth, and utilities for the toll booth, etc.

Just something I wondered after paying a toll last night.

Everyone I know has a toll pass (scan bar code), we pay by the year or month to the State Department of Highways. The tool booth person would be independently employed at a flat rate, and the toll revenues would not effect his or her salary at all.

Some toll booths are ran by the state and some ran by private sector, so the funds generated by each toll booth are applied to specific state funds.
If a tool booth is ran by private sector the company running the toll booth pays their employees out of there own profit generated through their contract(s) with the Government.

It can not be too much , toll booths are slowly fading away into the past as are the employees due to the introduction of the E-Z Pass system , soon the only way you will be able to travel a toll road is if you have one...

i dont think the actual toll money pays the employees. the employees work for the state. tax dollars pay thier salaries. and tax dollars pay for maintenance and upkeep of the toll. the money from the toll is just filtered back into state funds. that money is spread around various state projects and highway maintenance.
